Marketing Automation

Marketing automation is software that automates repetitive marketing tasks (email sequences, lead scoring, list segmentation, and campaign triggers) so teams can nurture and route contacts at scale. It acts on contact behavior and predefined rules instead of requiring manual sends and updates.

Typical use cases include welcome and onboarding email flows, behavior-triggered follow-ups, lead scoring that flags sales-ready contacts, and syncing activity to the CRM. Common platforms include HubSpot, Marketo, Pardot, and ActiveCampaign. It works closely with lead nurturing and lifecycle programs.

A frequent pitfall is over-automating: too many rigid rules and generic blasts can feel impersonal and hurt engagement. Effective automation depends on clean data, thoughtful segmentation, and regular review of workflow performance.
