Ideal Customer Profile

An Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) is a description of the type of company or buyer that gets the most value from your product and is the most profitable and easiest to serve. It captures firmographic traits like industry, company size, region, tech stack, and business pain.

Teams build an ICP by analysing their best existing customers, those who buy quickly, stay longest, and expand. The result focuses prospecting, ad targeting, lead scoring, and account-based marketing on accounts most likely to succeed, instead of spreading effort thin.

Note the difference between an ICP and a buyer persona: the ICP describes the right account or company, while a persona describes the individual people inside it. A common pitfall is defining an ICP too broadly, which dilutes targeting and wastes pipeline.
