Firmographic Data

Firmographic data is the set of descriptive attributes that characterize a company rather than an individual, things like industry, employee headcount, annual revenue, location, and ownership type. In B2B marketing it plays the role demographics play in consumer marketing: a way to group, target, and qualify accounts that fit your ideal customer profile.

Teams use firmographics to build segments, route leads, prioritize accounts in account-based marketing, and score how well a company matches their ICP. The data is gathered from form fills, CRM records, and third-party enrichment providers, then kept current as companies grow, merge, or relocate.

A common pitfall is letting firmographic fields go stale, which quietly degrades targeting and scoring accuracy over time. It is often paired with technographic data, which describes the tools a company uses. Related terms include ICP and predictive lead scoring.
