Demand Generation

Demand generation is the marketing discipline focused on building awareness of and interest in a company's products across the full funnel. Rather than chasing immediate form fills, it creates sustained demand, turning strangers into engaged prospects who eventually become pipeline and revenue through a mix of content, advertising, events, and nurture.

Demand gen spans the whole journey: top-of-funnel content and ads create awareness, mid-funnel webinars and resources deepen interest, and bottom-of-funnel offers convert intent into qualified leads. Teams measure it with pipeline created, marketing-sourced revenue, and cost per opportunity rather than vanity metrics like raw lead volume.

A common pitfall is conflating demand generation with lead generation; lead gen captures contact details from people already in-market, while demand gen also creates the demand that fills the market in the first place. It works hand in hand with marketing attribution to prove which programs drive revenue.
