Data Enrichment
Data enrichment is the process of adding missing or extra details to existing records using third-party data sources. Starting from a known identifier like an email or company domain, it appends fields such as job title, company size, industry, or location, making contact and account data more complete, accurate, and useful for targeting.
Enrichment lets teams keep web forms short while still capturing the firmographic and demographic detail needed for segmentation, lead scoring, and routing. It can run in real time when a record is created or as a batch process across the existing database, drawing on vendor data providers or enrichment APIs that match records and return appended attributes.
A common pitfall is treating enriched data as permanently accurate; details like job title and company size change over time, so enrichment works best as a recurring process. Quality also varies by provider and region, so teams should validate coverage and verify that data collection complies with applicable privacy rules.
